COVID-19 Cooking Adventures

I love to cook. Ever since I was little, I have loved food. While most parents struggled to get their children to try anything aside from chicken nuggets, I happily tried new foods every day. When my dad became interested in bread-making and asked me to help him braid the Challahs that he had made, I quickly figured out that as much as I loved eating, I loved cooking even more.

One of my favorite desserts – an ale based chocolate cake with raspberry filling!

It’s important to try to find things to help stay positive. Each person does this in their own unique way. But, what does this mean for me? Lots, and lots of cooking. For Hanukkah this year, I got the cook books from my favorite cooking shows, Binging with Babish and You Suck at Cooking, and I’ve been making a recipe a day since I got home. Some of my favorite dishes so far were a 3-day fermented crust pizza, a delicious chocolate chip banana bread, and a rich, zesty Dutch butter cake. It’s a slow and trying process, for sure – yesterday’s stew took me 7 hours – but it passes the time well, it’s fun, and, most importantly, it produces beautiful, tasty results.

A standard morning brunch for me nowadays.

This blog isn’t just about math. This post shows you just that. This blog is a means of allowing us to communicate during this time; it is a means to share our hardships and also our successes. For me, these past few weeks have been exhausting and heartbreaking knowing that I may never see some of you again, and seeing the ruin and devastation caused by this virus. Still, I can find solace in the moments of peace during my daily cooking adventures, and I hope that you all find something that allows you to escape this madness as well. Sending love and the warmest wishes from Washington D.C. to wherever everyone is throughout the world – stay safe, stay positive.

That cake looks so good! My “cooking” this break has been limited to microwave oatmeal, fried eggs, and a single quesadilla (which, I will say, was not bad).

Would you dare to call the quesadilla “fire”, though? That is the true determinant of deliciousness.

I couldn’t agree more that food can be a huge support, especially during our current reality. Your breakfast looks lots like the one I just had a couple days ago! 🙂
